Alabaster

Alabaster is a suburb of the Birmingham-Hoover MSA and is situated along I-65, approximately 20 miles south of downtown Birmingham. As the largest city in Shelby County, Alabaster continues to attract residents and businesses due to its location, amenities, and quality of life. Shelby Baptist Medical Center anchors the City’s medical mile serving patients throughout central Alabama while high academic standards and an award-winning athletic program at Alabaster City Schools contribute to consistent population and housing growth. Calera

Consistently ranked one of the fastest-growing cities in Alabama, Calera is bursting with potential. A suburb of the Birmingham-Hoover MSA, Calera is situated on I-65 and benefits from location and convenience while offering a variety of housing options and excellent schools. Chelsea

Columbiana

Columbiana is a quaint community centrally and conveniently located minutes from I-65 and US Hwy 280. This city has all the charm of a small town but with easy access to big-city amenities, which is contributing to a renewed housing interest in Columbiana and resulting in new housing subdivisions. The newly constructed Old Mill Square is a $10 million multi-use arts facility that is proving to be an entertainment destination for central Alabama with a black box theater, art gallery, and Grand Hall. In addition, Columbiana serves as the County Seat and is home to Lay Lake, Lewis Lakes Vineyards, and the Shelby County Board of Education. Harpersville

Harpersville is a small town located southeast of the Birmingham-Hoover MSA along the heavily traveled US Hwy 280 corridor. But don’t let the small town designation fool you: Harpervsville’s unique location and attractions bring a multitude of people to the community throughout the year. It is conveniently located within minutes of Logan Martin Lake and Lay Lake and is also a popular route to Auburn University. In addition, Harpersville is home to Morgan Creek Winery, Stone Hollow Farmstead, and Old Baker Farms, which contribute greatly to the town’s agribusiness economy and are popular destinations in the region. Combined with new housing growth and the opening of the beautifully renovated Meadows Golf Course, people are starting to take notice. Helena

Helena is a thriving suburb located in the Birmingham-Hoover MSA and has been ranked one of the best places to live in Alabama. Helena’s unique charm is due to a lively historic downtown district situated along the Cahaba River paired with progressive, well-planned development resulting in a popular destination for families. With the revitalization of Old Town Helena and new retail development projects underway, Helena is experiencing an expansion of retail and service industry sectors but much more is needed to meet projected population and housing growth. Hoover

Hoover is known for its nationally recognized public school system, its well-educated workforce (more than 56% of the population 25+ has a bachelor’s degree or higher), diverse housing options, numerous public parks, and nature preserves, and its favorable business climate. Hoover is home to Jefferson State Community College’s Shelby Campus. The Inverness/280 portion of the city is one of the busiest commercial corridors in Alabama. It contains many shopping options for people who live and work in that area and beyond, including the Village of Lee Branch commercial center and Tattersall Park, which is under development. In 2018, McLeod Software relocated to the City of Hoover on highway 280 with 350+ employees. Over the next five years, McLeod expects to grow to 700+ employees. It is the anchor employer of a newly renovated office park that now targets technology companies. Companies with large operations in Hoover include nationally known and homegrown companies such as BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama, Regions Financial Corporation, AT&T, CGI, IBERIA Bank, McLeod Software, and Command Alkon.

Indian Springs Village

Located at the base of Oak Mountain, beauty, serenity, and tranquility is the very essence of Indian Springs Village. The town is home to Indian Spring School, a proud hallmark of the village and the brainchild of Harvey G. Woodward, a Birmingham industrialist who had attended M.I.T. and wanted to establish a school in his home state that would train young men for a lifetime of learning. Mr. Woodward left a sizable estate and a detailed description of his program when he died in 1930. The first soccer program in the state was initiated at Indian Springs and the school’s choir has a tradition of presenting concerts all over the globe. The town’s goals have not changed much from their original purposes. Indian Springs Village has steadfastly nurtured a rural atmosphere.

Montevallo

The City of Montevallo is a quaint college town located in the southern portion of the Birmingham-Hoover MSA. Home to the state’s only public liberal arts college, the University of Montevallo is the City’s largest economic driver and is conveniently positioned within two blocks of Main Street. In 2012, the City of Montevallo, Shelby County Commission, and the University of Montevallo formed a cooperative district that consistently funds capital improvement projects in the City. Such purposeful investment has allowed for improvements to the aesthetics and infrastructure of the central business district, resulting in 31 new and announced tenants to date. Additionally, Montevallo is home to The Alabama National Cemetery and American Village, which attracts over 100,000 visitors annually. Come for a visit. We promise you’ll be impressed.

Pelham

Known for an abundance of recreational opportunities, Pelham is home to Oak Mountain State Park, Oak Mountain Amphitheater, Ballantrae Golf Club, Pelham Civic Complex & Ice Arena, Pelham Racquet Club, and the newly constructed Pelham Recreation Center that offers sports, fitness, art and leisure activities year-round. Visitors to these venues exceed 1 million annually. Campus 124 and The Canopy at Oak Mountain are two new mixed-use developments under construction currently. Both projects are within walking distance of the Pelham Civic Complex and Oak Mountain Amphitheater, soon becoming the City’s only entertainment district and will locate on the city’s new trail system. Nearby publicly held land and a City eager to welcome additional development offer ample opportunity for continued commercial growth that will complement and serve its citizenry. Vincent

Vincent is within the Birmingham-Hoover MSA and is uniquely positioned along US Hwy 231 with easy access to US Hwy 280 and I-20. With convenient access and site availability, the potential exists for Vincent to recruit industrial and commercial projects. In 2020, Vincent completed a $631,000 capital improvement project due in part to an ALDOT TAP grant, which improved access and walkability for merchants and residents downtown. Recreation facilities include Gorman Park with free boat launch access to the Coosa River along with Vincent Municipal Park, which offers a picnic pavilion, children’s playground, walking track, football, softball & baseball fields available to the public. Home to Shel-Clair Farms, a 1,000-acre working farm, provides horse riding trails, boarding, and camping that bring visitors from far and wide. Vincent Elementary and Middle/High Schools are also excellent educational facilities located inside the city limits and serve as the hub of community activity and engagement. Vincent is a small gem just waiting to be discovered.

Westover

Westover, located along the busy US Highway 280 corridor, is approximately 20 miles southeast of Birmingham. A growing community with extensive plans for (PUD) Planned Unit Development projects, Westover has extensive growth potential – from scenic wooded hills for new neighborhoods to commercial development potential along Hwy 280. Pine Mountain Preserve, currently under construction, offers large lots for farmhouse-style homes in a private community setting complete with hiking trails and communal recreation sites. Westover is also home to Camelot Manor, a popular wedding venue, and ServPro’s regional training center, both of which generate visitor traffic.

Wilsonville

Wilsonville is located in the southeastern portion of the Birmingham-Hoover MSA. The Town of Wilsonville is 10 minutes from US Hwy 280 and a little more than 20 minutes from I-65. A family-focused community, Wilsonville prides itself on its small-town feel with amenities citizens expect including youth sports, an active library, and lake living on Lay Lake with residential offerings from farms to waterfront property. Locally owned McEwen & Sons Gristmill whose stone-ground grits won the 2017 Southern Living Food Award Best Southern Made Product and is featured at the James Beard Award-winning restaurant Highlands Bar & Grill in Birmingham and ships nationwide for commercial use. Since 2009, Wilsonville has been home to the National Carbon Capture Center, employing 150 professionals at a world-class neutral research facility focused on cost-effective carbon capture innovations.

Wilton

Just recently celebrating its 100th anniversary, the truly historic town of Wilton is sure to surprise residents and visitors alike. The community was settled in southwest Shelby County which is located in the center of Alabama, situated just southwest of Montevallo. Wilton sponsors a Spring Fling celebration just before Easter, movies in Wilton Park on Friday nights during the summer, and a Christmas celebration and parade the first week of December. Wilton’s municipal building is a two-story stone structure that was built during the Depression. Just south of Wilton lies the Woods-Cleveland Cooling House (circa 1845), which was one of the first homesteads built in the area and is listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. Wilton is convenient to the Cahaba River National Wildlife Refuge to the west, Tannehill State Park to the northwest, and the Oakmulgee Ranger District of the Talladega National Forest to the southwest, and Oak Mountain State Park to the northeast.
